Have you ever heard a snare drum singing? Those of you who ever stood behind Edgar’s drum set at the Sugar Il·legal Fest in Vic surely did! Just like a steel pan or even a marimba, every accent in each drum beat has its own expression and unique character, at a speed worthy of the best in fast and extreme traditional post-hardcore. It was through hearing that snare sing, whisper and scream that we discovered this great band.

Edgar launched Tröpical Ice Land alongside the great Toni, a guy who is about as far away as you can imagine from the archetypal singer of hardcore. All wit and kindness, when he hangs a guitar round his neck and you put a microphone in front of him, you feel like you are witnessing Cthulhu bursting in an old tavern full of grandpas playing dominoes. They began working together as a duo in between Vic and Torelló in 2009, looking for a sound close to bands like Orchid, Cult Of Luna or Envy, and that same year they recorded their first album under the tutelage of local heroes Based On A Lie. They decided to call it "A" with the idea that each disc would be a letter of the alphabet and see how far they would reach over the years, playing shows from their native Torelló (half settled at l'Eclèctic) to the Basque Country, Madrid and La Rioja and passing by the Sala Apolo in Barcelona. After including a bass player, to fill out their sound, they were already gaining a following until the label Saltamarges got interested in them and supported the release of their second album, "B" (2012).

From there, they would appear at Catalan punk showcases, like the Actitud Festival in Vidreres and more recently at the Sant Feliu Fest. This appearance or their regular presence at the Sugar Il·legal Fest and many other gigs in the scene have taken them quietly into the present with this splendid "C" under their arms: a proud record that even includes some breathtaking passages with a chamber orchestra. An album, just like their previous ones, that displays a handcrafted finish, a handmade packaging and a vocation that really commits to music – not in a commercial way -, but with DIY and counterculture tissue. But we insist, if you like this album as much as we do, you should go and see Edgar making his snare sing, you will be captivated.
